It always amuses me when journalists come up to me in interviews and ask me questions like 'How does it feel being in the spotlight now?', 'Do you feel 'Midnight Boom' has changed you as a person?' and all that kind of stuff. It makes you wonder what kind of research they have done beforehand. To clear it up, I've been in this business for about fifteen years. Been up on that stage ever since I figured how to plug in my guitar. Amusing to some or not, it's that whole media fed hype surrounding us lately that we've tried to get away from before. As far as the story of The Kills goes.. We never started making music to become famous. Actually, we never even got together to start a band. When we first met, there was just this instant connection we had. Not just about music, but about art and creating, life, visions on life, everything. We were friends for a long time, just hanging out in his room back in London, fixing up old tape machines and recording little things and pieces. We could spend hours in there getting very excited about that. I was touring the UK with my band back then and stayed in an apartment that had Jamie's room right above mine. I would always hear him play his guitar at the strangest hours. Not that this has changed since. But that's how we started hanging out. So in a way, music was always there, but it was more than just that, you know. We would do just about anything friends do. But whenever it did come to music and we'd be sending each other yet another package of strange recordings for the other to check out, we never felt like there was any pressure. Like we were waiting for the other to go 'Let's start a band' or 'Let's bring out a record right now'. We never looked for 'that other drummer' or 'that other keyboard player'. We were the band. Whenever I had a chance to leave Florida and hang in England with him for a while, we just jammed together, and it worked.

But I already had my own band back in the States. Ask Jamie about it any time, and he'll tell you how he hung with me and my band.. what.. seven years ago now? He would check out our shows, join in sometimes. At one point, he wanted to join the band but honestly, we knew whenever we made music together that it was different. Not a band-type feel at all. But it was us. I loved my band. I still love them. Absolutely. But doing the Kills with Jamie has just been a complete different experience.

And then, of course, there's the Dead Weather. Actually, I have typed on enough about the Kills. I'm going to copy an explanation as to how the Dead Weather got together. Save both myself and my fingers some time. Sound good? Here we go:

Another project founded by Jack White, Dead Weather began after the Raconteurs toured the U.S. with the Kills in summer 2008. Toward the end of the tour, bronchitis made it difficult for White to sing as much as usual, so Kills singer Alison Mosshart was drafted to sing several of his songs. Mosshart's on-stage chemistry with the Raconteurs led to White, Mosshart, bassist "Little Jack" Lawrence, and White's houseguest, Queens of the Stone Age guitarist Dean Fertita, recording a cover of Gary Numan's "Are Friends Electric?" The newly formed band began working on a full album at White's Third Man Studios in Nashville TN, with White on drums for the first time since his stint in Goober & the Peas. Dead Weather finished recording their album in a matter of weeks, crafting a sound influenced by White's and Mosshart's other projects but with a darker, more processed feel. The band made its live debut in March 2009, performing a short set for 150 friends at Third Man's offices to celebrate the release of the single Hang You from the Heavens/Are Friends Electric?; a month later, they played their first official gig at New York's Bowery Ballroom. Horehound, Dead Weather's debut album, arrived that summer.

There you have it. I love how the internet works sometimes. I'm not lazy, but these are the kind of questions that anyone interested in who you are or what you do already knows the answer to. It's the same when you release something new or announce a tour. You'll be surprised at how many times we get the exact same questions. It's not a bad thing. It just boggles my mind sometimes. Whenever it's not boggling though?

Hi. I'm Alison. And I should have known allowing Jamie (or demanding him, really) to get me a screenname would result in something I will kick him for, later. See subject line. Men...
